Letter 2 Akito Inui → Daisuke Iga

2016.09.28

Iga-san, long time no see. I’m well. I look forward to working with you. It’s great fun for me too, drinking with you. It’s like we’re an adult version of friends in elementary school jabbering away in a candy store or somewhere like that, but drinking alcohol and jabbering away instead. I hope we’ll stay drinking buddies in future.
I spent the morning writing in the Chiyoda City Office library in Kudanshita. Then I had pacific saury kabayaki with rice in the canteen there, walked to Kanda and carried on writing in a work-friendly cafe under the train tracks — well, a place with power and a self-service drinks bar anyway.
In between I’ve been doing other things like writing this.
I feel more motivated writing in a library or outside workspace rather than at home, because you’re surrounded by people hard at it studying and working. At home I just end up doing unnecessary things.
Where do you go to work or think, Iga-san? In some coffee shop in Shinjuku, I suppose? By the way, I don’t have a set drink.
On the way back I walked to Jinbocho, had some gyoza dumplings and came home. It was a set of 12 gyoza. Gyoza are like my reward.
Iga-san, is there any food you reward yourself with?
These days I get a lot of pleasure from doing my work and wandering around a favorite neighborhood on the way home. I like the idea of the Gozen Juji no Eigasai [10am Film Festival]. We could get all serious watching Ikiru [To Live] and then see a Shacho series [The President Series] comedy somewhere.
Do you like the Shacho series, Iga-san? Who’s your favorite among Hisaya Morishige, Keiju Kobayashi, Norihei Miki and Frankie Sakai?
